Reality Networkers(RN) is a club for internet marketers or networkers to build their network. In this club, it not only helps you build your list and downlines, they also got a compensation plan in addition to it. A 5x6 Force matrix one time commission per level.

I've joined this for Free several days ago just to see what exactly is this program trying to do. After joining, I took a quick look around in the club and left it there for few days. After few days of not even logging in, I actually received emails from Geraldo of Reality Networkers saying that I've got 113 Downlines! It drew my attention to RN again, therefore I logged in to take a look. Indeed I've got 113 downlines, then I followed some simple steps in their guide to see what happens next. I then start to read more into the program compensation plan to understand how can I benefit from this program. It came out so simple as to have only 5 referrals. This program is so active that my uplines keep putting downlines under me.

This is how this program work. You will join this program for Free initially and start to see and experience what this program is like. After you start to understand this program, you can choose to upgrade your membership at $25 or you can choose to be free. After that, if you already refer 5 active member, you will be paid $40 for level 1 commission. Then you simply need to guide your 5 direct referral to groom their 5 active referral and you will get level 2 commission of $100. As every active downline is suppose to just do a minor part on grooming their own 5 direct referral. This system flows fast, uplines will then help downlines on getting more downlines. Once you completed 3rd level, you will get $500 on commission. This goes on till 6 levels, according to one of my upline who already received lvl 5 and lvl 6 commission, he received $6000+. People in this program are all helpful on their downline, if you get an unhelpful upline you could even request for a change. Very interesting program for internet income starters.

My conclusion to reviewing this Reality Networkers is this program is real, legit and good for people who just started their online income adventure.

2.Know when to back away. Many times when you are pushing and pushing and things just don't seem to budge, you may need to just walk away from what you are doing for a little while. This can be difficult I know, because sometimes you just want to muscle through it. Take a walk, listen to your favorite music, call a positive friend, or go to the gym. You know what things make you feel good so have a few things in mind that you can do when you need to get away from your work.

There was some reason that you chose this path, remembering it can help keep you on it.

Most of us did this when we were kids, and it's a great way to release that pent up frustration from our minds and our bodies. Get a pillow and beat the poop out of it. 5.Lend a helping hand. Getting out of your negative space and giving assistance to someone else can give you a great high to get you back on track. Think of someone you know that could use a hand at something. Check with a charity or something of the like and volunteer. Helping others helps everyone.

I hope these tips give you the strength and determination to get past those rough patches. Remember tough times happen for everyone, it's what you do to get through them that says a lot about who you are, and what your made of. While educating people on the value of hiring a good copywriter can eventually pay off, I do not take this approach. I prefer to find entrepreneurs and small business owners who are already interested in hiring copywriters. This thinking is what my strategies are based on.

Strategy #1: Use PPC advertising to drive searchers to a lead capture page.

PPC, or pay-per-click, advertising lets you target the very people who want what you have. So if somebody is searching for "direct response copywriter," you can place your text ad in front of that person, at the precise moment he types in his search.

If you're going to try PPC advertising, you should start with Google Adwords. It's the easiest service to use, and they reach more searchers than any other PPC network. I recently came across the new book Cunningly Clever Marketing when searching for marketing books by Jay Conrad Levinson. Right on the front of Cunningly Clever Marketing's home page there was a review written by Jay Conrad Levinson stating how great the book was, so I asked myself Why not give it a try and ordered my copy from the site.

Shipping Method

The book made it to my home very quickly, 4 days after I ordered it and it was shipped via FedEx. So far this marketing company is off to a good start. Usually when I place an order for a book directly from its own website it is shipped via USPS and the book will come in mangled and destroyed because of the shipping.

How The Book Looks and Feels

I immediately noticed the front cover. It is a marketing book with a fox on the front of it. Cunningly clever book cover or bad graphics designer? Im going to go with clever marketing cover since the book is called Cunningly Clever Marketing.

At 416 pages of glossy paper, the book is incredibly heavy. You could probably use it as a boat anchor for one of those crabbing boats you always see on Deadliest Catch. If you locked your keys in your car and happened to be carrying Cunningly Clever Marketing, dont call pick up the phone and call locksmith. Take that book out and smash through the window. If this book was worth its weight in gold you would have an off shore bank account holding your millions!

All kidding aside, you can not judge a book by it's cover (or its weight) and I decided to open the book up and get reading.

The opening of a speech is important, as are opeings in
everyday life. It can grab the listener's attention and
interest or turn them off. A poor start makes it more
difficult for the speaker to get their message across. An
effective speaker realises the importance and takes action
to ensure he starts off well.

The content of an introduction will vary from speech to
speech depending on the circumstances of the speech and the
speaker's personality. Because of this there are only few
generalities that apply to beginnings.

Firstly avoid the following:

(a) Thanking a long list of people. The shorter your thank
you list is the better. Your audience's attention will
start to wander if this takes too long.

(b) Apologizing for speaking. Never apologize, and
especially don't start with "unaccustomed as I am in
speaking in public..." It combines an apology with an
overused stock phrase. (You may get away with this, if it
is used in humor).

Secondly, an introduction should have the following
qualities:

1. It is brief. If it is too long the audience gets bored
and they start to wonder how long will the speech and
whether it will ever get past the beginning.

2. It is relevant. The opening should link up with the
speech otherwise it may confuse or mislead the audience.

Thirdly, the steps commonly found in an introduction to a

This first step is about getting started and to getting the

short pause (it will give you chance to "catch your
breath"), smile genuinely and look out at the audience.
Memorize the first couple of lines of your speech, as this
gives you the chance to get going and time for your brain
to click into gear.

There are a variety of ways that can be used to effectively
open your speech e.g., begin with an interesting story, a
question to get the audience thinking, an amusing anecdote
and a relevant quotation etc.

2. What's In It For The Audience

The audience are always keen to understand what they will
get out of listening to a speaker. By letting them know how
the speech will benefit them, they will be keen to listen
to the rest of the speech. Some examples of common wants of
an audience are: to make more money, to have better health,
to have better relationships etc.

3. What Is Coming Up

Here the speaker provides the audience with a quick preview
of what to expect. The audience will have an idea where the
speech is headed.

An effective public speaker realises the importance of the
opening plans it carefully, taking into account the
circumstances of the speech and their personality. They
keep it brief and to the point. They get their listener's
attention and interest.

Authors and Writers: Do You Know What Your Hook Is When It Comes To Getting Publicity

Ssshhh! Did you hear that?

That... Right there... Just listen...

Still can't hear anything?

Neither can I. And that's exactly what I'm talking about.
It's called silence.

And it's what happens when you don't know what your hook is
if you're trying to drum up some publicity for you, your
book or your business.

What's a hook?

It's the brass ring... the prize in the bottom of the
CrackerJacks box... It's the cherry on top of the cake.

Your hook is what makes you interesting... fascinating...
or simply irresistible to someone in the media and the
general public.

So...

If you're getting ready to start a book tour - in person or
on the internet...

Or you want to promote your latest products or services...

Or you want to become known as an expert in your field or
industry...

Publicity is one of the best, fastest and longest lasting
routes to get you where you want to go.

It's like being able to use one of the secret passages in
the board game Clue to go from one room to another in just
one move.

Or getting a lucky "Chance" card and moving right past "Go"
and collecting an extra $200 dollars in Monopoly.

The problem is, when it comes to getting publicity, it's
next to impossible to do if you don't understand the rules,
or how to play the game.

Rule #1 in getting publicity is that you've gotta have a
hook.

So what's yours?

(Hint: It's NOT about you or your business or your latest
product and its NOT about your book. At least, not really.)

A hook should be either: entertaining, informative,
current, emotional or controversial.

And - here's a "secret" most authors and writers don't seem
to get...

A hook should always be presented as what we call a "blind"
or open question.

In other words, a hook is a question that can't be answered
with a "yes" or "no."

Good hooks are questions that start out with "Why" or "How"
or "How to"...

Sometimes you can use a "What" in your hook...

Such as... "What To Do If You're All Alone and Someone
Breaks Into Your Home"

But a better hook might be... "What You Absolutely Have to
Do First If You're All Alone and Someone Breaks Into Your
Home"

And you could add a little extra bait to your hook by
adding a sub-headline... "Not knowing this simple little
thing could cost you or your loved ones their lives..."

In order to be effective, and practically guarantee you'll
get the publicity you're looking for, your hook needs to
touch on a dominant emotion...

Such as Fear, Excitement, Greed, Joy, Lust...

These are all dominant emotions - and we all have them.
(Even if we're not proud of having them or don't want to
own up to the fact that we've got them - they're still
there.)

So when you're planning a particular publicity campaign, or
you're getting ready to sit down at your computer, stop and
think for a few minutes about what underlying emotion you
want - or can -use as a hook.

And here's the next thing you need to remember - I
mentioned it up above. This isn't about you.

I know, I know. That can seem a little weird, especially if
you're about to write a media release about your latest
book.

But the sad truth is... Nobody - except maybe your mother,
your best friend or the people who want to be able to say
they know a "famous" author - cares about your book. Or
that you're about to go on a virtual book tour.

The media doesn't care about it.

And the general public doesn't care about it.

Yet.

That's why you need a hook. A hook is what grabs them...
Stops them in their tracks... And makes them wonder about
what else you have to say.

Why? Because your hook has given them just a hint of
something they REALLY care about...

Themselves.

And what's in it for them. (This is commonly known as the
WII-FM channel - the "What's In It For Me?)

We're always more interested in something if we feel like
we might be missing out on something... or that something's
being kept from us, or that we might benefit from something
- and we just almost HAVE to know what it is.

That's a hook.

For the media, your hook needs to be something they think
will be of interest to their audience.

And for the audience, your hook needs to be something that
appeals to their self-interest.

That might be protecting themselves from something,
learning something that will benefit them, discovering
something that almost no one else knows or learning how to
do something.

And that's what leads back to you, your products or
services or your book.

Suddenly people are interested.

That's all there is to it. Now that you know what a hook
is, get back to your keyboard, and create yours.

It must offer them a solution to their problem. GIVE AWAY
YOUR SECRETS! Don’t be afraid to give your reader
what they need for FREE. Chances are they are going to
recognize that they would rather work with an expert than
try to solve this problem on their own. Give someone a
fish and they have dinner tonight. Teach them to fish and
they can feed themselves forever. But open a grocery store
down the street and chances are, they’ll buy the fish
from you. People only have so much time in their days and
if they find a trustworthy source that can make their life
easier or their business more profitable, they are going to
take you up on it!

4. YOU MUST USE YOUR KEYWORDS WITHIN YOUR TEXT.

The search engines are going to identify each article by
the words within it. So you have to be thinking about how
people are going to find you. What words are they going to
use in their searching? There are so many resources on the
net that can help you determine the right keywords. Find
one and use it. Then repeat those words throughout your
article (just shy of being irritating about overusing them)
and you’ll find greater success!

5. LASTLY, YOUR ARTICLE MARKETING MUST PROVIDE A CALL TO
ACTION.

Lead the reader to do something. Whether it be to download
your eBook, call you directly, or click onto your website.
Typically, you want to lead them to the next thing they can
get for FREE. People like FREE. So lead them to your
website, where they can download an eBook that solves this
same problem but in more depth, or better yet, offer them a
FREE strategy session if they contact you by email. Make
it easy for them, like “Hey, I’ll even have my
assistant set up a time for me to talk to you directly for
20 minutes about ways you can build your business based on
these principles. FREE.”

A Writer's Secret Place
On the first morning of our vacation to Yachats around 6:45
A.M., I am still drowsy while I curl over in bed taking dim
note of our surroundings. Our bedroom faces East with a
wall to wall picture window protected by a panel of hanging
canvas-like shades.

The rising sun is streaming through those vertical panels,
illuminating a picture of Martha's Vineyards on the
opposite wall, and an adjacent beach painting called "By
the Sea."

I hear my wife Susan in the kitchen probably making coffee.
Every so often there is a cracking boom from the surf
outside, crashing against our rugged, rocky Oregon
coastline.

I am more awake now, but I close my eyes to move myself
deeper into the spirit of relaxation. However, I do
commence to stroke Silas, our twelve pound poodle and
pomeranian mix, who is snuggled besides me.

Slowly, I become aware of and more sensitive to the outside
chatter of birds commingled with the cackling songs of some
crows.

Woven within the cacophony is the mysterious and melodic
flute-like song of an unknown avian creature. Whatever the
nature of this species, I am convinced it is a virtuoso.

Such sweet, soothing refrains, flash me back to the Native
American music, Susan and I became so exquisitely familiar
with when we lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the 90's.

The flute notes continue with a slightly reedy resonance,
accompanied by three staccato whistles at the end of the
bird song. I know in my heart, as a few tears of joy land
on my face, that I must have arrived in heaven.

As I record these precious moments in my journal, I would
like to say a few words of encouragement to aspiring
writers. First and foremost, start writing your own
journal. There is something healing, therapeutic, and
thought provoking about the whole journaling process.

Next, while you journal, pause to slow the pace down.
Review the written passages and look for word gems or
thought jewels to further refine and appreciate.

This form of writing then becomes a kind of cognitive
meditation, which facilitates peace of mind and limitless
creativity.

For example, I am sitting now in a comfortable lounge chair
located in our beach home living room. I have rewritten my
entry at least 10 times or more, which is the third thing I
want to suggest to all those who want to get published:
keep polishing your work.

The more I focused on describing my immediate environment,
the more receptive I became to free flowing, relaxing
thoughts.

I noticed the whole West wall of our living room consists
of four, tempered glass windows, about five-by-five square
feet each, and a matching pair attached to both side walls.
The observation area presents a panoramic view that is
unbelievable, humbling, and awe inspiring.

Our rental home actually rests on a grassy cliff
overlooking and facing the Pacific Ocean. The spectacular
water images hypnotize by the undulating motion of the
waves, caressing the huge, oddly shaped, black, barnacle
covered, volcanic rock slabs, jutting out in the shoreline.

As I write about the power of journaling, the surf roars
with breaking whitecaps, spiraling around and splashing
between the rock formation fingers. Sea gulls fly low over
the waters, sometimes diving in to feast on sea bounty.

Write about what you hear, feel, and think. Know that there
is a creative force within all of us. Practice accessing
this inner Light that overcomes all dark secrets, which
mysteriously threaten to hold us back from the good we
deserve.

Let your writing take you to the place of silence deep
within our subconscious mind some appropriately call, "The
Secret Place of the most High."

Furthermore, listen to the spirit music of your
surroundings and observations. Allow your mind, body, and
soul to dance to the rhythmic pulse of inspiration and
bliss. Give yourself permission to free associate with your
creative strengths, talents, and abilities.

So, let's take a deep breath together and revisit one last
time the sparkling, gleaming, life images that stand before
me today. I look out at a mauve sky on the ocean horizon.

At times, the sun turns the sea into millions of glistening
diamond lights. A partial cloud-drape extends over the
bluish-green waters as far as the eye can see. Gulls and
waterfowl are bobbing in clumps, speckling the ocean with
white feather squares like enormous nature-made patch
quilts. The fishy, salty, seaweed smells permeate the air.

I turn to focus once again on the infinite, majestic waves.
Their surf-music play notes of rushing, slashing,
percussive melodies, which mesmerize, hypnotize, and sooth
the soul.

To be writing on a day like this is a blessing beyond
imagination, with memories to treasure and keep alive in
the secret place within.

Statistics show that 75 percent of online shoppers are
dissatisfied with the shopping experience and most of the
other 25 percent are not jump up and down happy with it
either. The opportunity does exist, however, to make your
visitors very, very happy with a minimum effort on your
part. A little planning and foresight goes a long way.

Think like a customer and ensure where they land is
specifically relevant to their search terms. Nothing hacks
searchers off more than getting to a web site only to find
that they must continue to search to get where they need to
be. Send them directly to the product information page they
are seeking.

Landing pages must be highly specific and easy to navigate
to the point of the sale. Make landing pages part of a
micro-site to avoid a major overhaul of your main site.
This allows for a large amount of flexibility as a
marketer. Ensure you include all discounts and coupons
there as well.

A random set of shoppers surveyed (Bryan Eisenberg, Nov
2007) uncovered some unsettling facts about what a shopper
needs to make a purchase online. Roughly 80 percent
reported they rarely, if ever, make a purchase without
being completely informed about the product.

Of those, 72 percent will find a competitor that does give
them adequate information to buy and they will make their
purchase on that site. This should kill any doubts you may
have as to value of your content. Informed traffic is more
likely to buy where they learned the most about their

but as much relevant product information as possible for
buyers to make informed decisions. Merchants who fail to do

These two examples are not that uncommon. In fact, they are
far more common than you might think. There are ways to
offset many other obstacles to successful landing pages as
well. Here are a few:

* Offer multiple images views of products

* Offer customer reviews

* Use easy to read fonts or allow customers to change the
font

* Offer free shipping

* Offer in-stock information on the product page

* Offer in-store pickup for online retailers that have
physical stores

* Offer shipping costs early in the checkout process and
use 4 or fewer steps in the checkout process

* Respond to e-mail questions within 24 hours

* Offer more ways to pay means more ways to buy:
pay-by-check, Google Checkout, PayPal and Bill Me Later

That's a lot to digest in one setting and more than enough
to keep you busy for the next week or two. Solutions to
problems don't necessarily need to be complex to be
effective. If you will follow this simple advice, you will
see a marked increase in the effectiveness of your landing

Put Tension into Your Stories to Keep Readers Reading

Tension is inextricably bound up in the emotions of your
characters, and by introducing tension you lead your
readers into the same emotions, as they 'feel' for the
characters in your story.

So just what is tension? We can define it as where a
character is being pulled in two, or more, directions at
the same time.

Imagine Lizzy Battlebridge, the heroine in our tale of
everyday country folk, falling for Tom Roding the tractor
mechanic. She has been giving him the eye and knows he is
interested. Problem is she's been seeing Ralph the postman
for five years now and is really in love with him. Or is
she?

This, of course, is the classic love triangle, but in our
story we must show the emotions that Lizzie goes through as
she is torn between Tom and Ralph. We must show the
excitement and even danger of her new love, whilst at the
same time telling the reader what she goes through whilst
trying to sort out who she will end up with. Plus there is
the fear of having to tell Ralph, assuming he hasn't
cottoned on already (but maybe he has!), and the agonising
over what Ralph's reactions might be when she does.

Tension is usually something which develops over a period
of time and several incidents or conversations, but it is
possible to hit the reader between the eyes with a
situation that generates tension immediately. This will
often be when the tension arises between just two people or
between one person and a situation.

Here are examples of both of these situations:

Lizzie, in the staff room, is about to relieve her friend
at the Post Office counter where they works, when she hears
through the half open door two customers talking...

Scenario 1: They are saying that Tom has fallen off his
tractor and is on his way to hospital. Lizzie can't go and
sit by his bedside until her shift finishes at 5.30. But,
oh dear, she is expecting Ralph to pick her up to go over
to the town to have a KFC and then on to see a movie! Here
the tension will build as Lizzie goes though the evening
with one love, whilst fearing for the life of the other. It
could be protracted over several days as one thing after
another prevents her from seeing Tom.

Scenario 2: One customer is telling the other they have
just heard that the Melksham & Milton Keynes Building
Society is in turmoil. The Chief Cashier has disappeared
and vast amounts of cash have disappeared with him.
Lizzie's life savings are with MMM. What is she going to
do? Of course, there is insurance in place to cover
embezzlement, but Lizzie doesn't know this. Yet. When she
does, tension relieved.

In a previous article I have spoken about using suspense in
a story. Suspense and tension go hand in hand. If you've
generated one the other should be close on its heels. The
difference is, and this is a generalisation, that suspense
can be held over a long period of time, whereas tension
needs to be introduced at intervals followed by the relief
of that tension. Until the next one. Otherwise your readers
are going to have no nails left!

So, in our storyline with Lizzie we could say that the
suspense of who she is going to end up with runs throughout
the story, but scenes of tension, such as Tom's
precipitation from the tractor, make up just part of the
story.

Now if you've got an hour or so, I would be awfully
grateful if you would kindly finish the story above as I'm
dying to know what happens to poor Lizzie. Will she, won't
she? I'm on my fifth black coffee and the suspense is
killing me!

and said this was the last draft and I was going to say,"
good night I am finished." However, I can't tell you either
how many times I thought about quiting in sports as well.
If I was working for someone else that would mean that I
probably would have quit long ago, but that is the beauty
of working for yourself, you are not obliged to a
particular magazine or newspapers. But of course with this
comes an important decision as to knowing when and how to
copyright your work. Now that is another subject in itself.

There is one thing for sure. Athletes trying to make the
big time are a dime a dozen in the athletic world. An
athlete has to decide where he is headed and going with his

Now it is really what direction you decide to go. You might

Few would disagree that one of the quickest ways to elevate
your career is to write a book on your "subject" - but if
the whole idea has your knees knocking like jelly, then
you'll definitely want to discover the quick and easy route

Step One - Decide on your audience!

Assuming you're writing a book that's related to your work,
decide first on who your target audience is before you set
pen to paper. Writing for a specific group of people is
not only easier, but it enables you to be perceived as an
expert within that group. You must also decide on the
level of knowledge of your average reader and write
accordingly. In this way, you avoid being patronising - or
writing above the comprehension level of your reader.

Step Two - Get to work on your structure!

It's all too easy to get the writing bug and produce pages
covered with fascinating streams of consciousness. The
problem however, arises when you need to format the book
into some kind of structure. Wading through 70,000 words to
find a particular topic takes hours, is frustrating and

The vast majority of fiction writers write short stories,
whether they write for their own pleasure, for the writing
circle they belong to, a competition or whether they aim to
get them published. The temptation to bring in lots of
exciting characters can be irresistible. But are they
necessary?

In a short story you have between 800 and 3,000 words, on
average, in which to tell your tale. You can't afford to
populate it with a cast of thousands. They simply won't fit
in.

get the balance right? Let's look at one or two examples.

Principle 1 - Whenever possible wield the axe.

Your main character is John and you write: 'John opened the
door. It was Reg Bigley, the postman, with a parcel.'

Giving the postman a name makes him a 'Character' and, as a
result, in the minds of your readers he has assumed a
visual reality. Your readers will picture Reg, even if only
vaguely, in a form that the name 'Reg Bigley' conjures up
in their minds. It will differ from reader to reader of
course, but giving a character a name will have that effect.

If you write: 'John opened the door. It was the postman
with a parcel' then we just have a nebulous 'postman' with
no connotations for building a persona out of.

In this scenario I am assuming the parcel is the
significant factor, and if you can get away without the
actual appearance of the postman, so much the better.

So you could write: 'John was in a quandary. The postman
had brought the parcel that morning, but the contents were
decidedly not what he was expecting'

Lesson: Don't give minor 'walk on' characters names, and if
you can do without them altogether, do so.

Principle 2 - Do they have a significant role?

Let's develop John and the postman again. This time you
write:

'John opened the door. It was Reg Bigley the postman with a
parcel.

"Hello Reg, what is it this time?"

"Another for your DVD collection I reckon, John."

"You could be right. Got time for a cup of tea?"

"Ta very much." '

Now you are giving Reg more than a 'walk on' role, plus we
have the beginnings of a personality. This poses some
questions. Does Reg have anything to do with the actual
plot? Does he have some knowledge about the parcel that
will have a bearing on the plot? Is he going to appear more
than once? How many cups of tea will he drink?

If the parcel is significant, as we have assumed, but Reg
only appears once and is then forgotten, keep him simply
as the postman with no name. If Reg will contribute to the
plot in some way, or if his conversation with John will
bring something pertinent to light, then giving him a name
and a personality will work so long as you don't overdo it.

If you are bringing Reg back later in the story with an
important contribution to make, then OK. Just don't give
him a wife, three kids and a pet hamster.

Lesson: A character must add significantly to the plot to
make them worth the precious word count they're going to
take up in the story. If they don't, keep him or her low
key and anonymous at most.

Keep your minor characters under control and you will have
a sharper and more focussed story for your readers to enjoy.

How to Tug at Your Readers' Heart Strings

When we think about emotion in a story the word can mean
different things to different people. The main divide and
therefore the main difference is, of course, the
male/female one. It might seem obvious, but if there is any
doubt as to which you are writing for, men or women, think
about it because your story must be couched to suit.

As a general rule women want to be moved by love, sympathy,
uplifting sentiments, incidents of caring and nurture, etc.
This is not to say that they don't want excitement, danger
or cliff hangers, but most women will respond to the higher
emotions more readily than men.

Men want, again as a general rule, to read about action,
danger and success in conflict. The emotions they respond
to are fear, anger, sometimes hate, triumph and anything
that shows the hero feeling fulfilled by overcoming the
obstacles that have been thrown his way. Which is not to
say that they don't like the love element, but it is often,
shall we say, on a more basic level.

Now please don't hold up your hands in horror and cry
'stereotypes!' Face the facts: men and women really are
different! As a general rule.

When you begin a story take a good look at your hero or
heroine and decide exactly how they would react in the
situation you are about to pitch them into.

This means working out where they have come from in their
life journey to date. Are they bitter as a result of life's
trials, or are they resigned to their fate? Or what? A word
of warning: don't make your hero too well balanced.
Remember, 'well balanced' can also equal 'boring'.

Remember also that your hero or heroine should be flawed in
some way. So decide what that flaw is and the experience
that produced it. Then colour their emotions and reactions
accordingly.

Your readers want to experience what your characters are
feeling so they can live vicariously through them. To do
this you have to show what a character is feeling. This can
be done by simply describing what is happening, such as:

'Amanda felt the hot blood rush to her cheeks.'

The context of the incident should tell the reader why. Is
she blushing with embrassment, or is she angry?

You can let the character say what's happening:

'Stop talking like that! You make me so angry!'

For the male characters you can say something like:

'Dirk strode swiftly across the room, anger blazing in his
eyes. His fist caught Parfitt squarely on the chin and sent
him reeling. "Don't you dare talk to Amanda like that, you
miserable toad!"'

Space the emotional scenes in your story so that the reader
isn't in a constant state of emotional tension. It's OK to
build these scenes as the story comes to a climax; just
don't overdo it.

As a general rule (there's that phrase again!) readers want
to feel satisfied, fulfilled and relieved that good
triumphed over evil in the end. Learn to give them the
emotional fix they're looking for and you will build a
loyal readership eagerly awaiting your next story.

How To Quickly Find Great Names For Your Characters

We've all been there. You know she's called Sandie or
Kaylee or some other cool name but can't for the life of
you find a suitable surname. You've wrung your hands to the
bone, you've drunk the midnight oil, but still a good solid
name won't come. What, oh what can you do? Read on, dear
writer, an inexhaustible supply of quality names awaits.

The answer lies, in fact, in the common or garden road map!
Most homes have one, but if yours doesn't pop down to the
newsagents where you can pick one up quite cheaply. And
before you say, "What is he blathering about? I'm not
naming MY hero Chorlton-cum-Hardy!" just hold your horses a
second and give me chance to explain.

Back in the mists of time, on those rare occasions when
someone would move from their native town or village, say
Nyewood in Sussex, and settle down somewhere else, they
would often become known as John of Nyewood. Eventually
they would simply be called John Nyewood. So there is
nothing wrong with taking this principle and bending it to
our own creative purposes.

I have before me a road map of that fine county of Essex
and I need a few names for my next best-selling novel and
they've got to be believable. OK, so I cast my eye over the
page which is awash with the most amazing and inspiring
towns and villages with names like Bishop's Stortford,
Stansted Mountfitchet and Stondon Massey.

Of course you don't take these names quite as they stand,
but with a little bit of tweaking a fine bunch of
characters can soon be standing in front of you bursting
with life and veracity.

Take for example Bishop's Stortford. You might be tempted
to include a Bishop in your story and call him something
like Bishop Gerald Stortford. I would advise against that.
We don't want to make it too obvious, do we? But you could
use Gerald Stortford, or maybe adjust it slightly to Gerald
Startford or Stertford.

Let's move on to the redoubtable Stansted Mountfitchet.
What a name! It would almost work as it stands. But no, we
must refine it and make it believable for a human being.
Remember we are using these place names purely as a
springboard. So how about we drop the Stansted and we drop
the Mount and call our chappy Fitchet? Better still add an
extra 't' to make him sound a bit posher and call him
Fitchett. Brilliant. You could even reprieve the Stansted
and call him Stanley. Stanley Fitchett. I can almost see
him now ensconced in his solicitors' office peering
doubtfully at me over his pince-nez even as we speak!
Fitchett, Fitchett and Stanton. Hey, that's not bad!

Now I've given you the idea, what can you do with Stondon
Massey? You could use Massey as is, but if it's a female
character don't call her Anna! What about Stacey Massey? Or
Stella Mansey? Or Sophie Mensie?

You may still be a little nervous that some of these names
could still be genuine people and what if they write you a
stinging letter of complaint? Well, just write back calmly
and politely pointing out exactly how you arrived at
'Fortescue Mancaster' or whatever it is, giving the
Ordnance Survey grid reference or other means of
identifying where you got it from. I recommend culling all
your names for a particular story from the same area on the
map. It just makes it easier I feel.

Finally, let's drift back to that disparaging remark
apropos Chorlton-cum-Hardy. If you've been paying attention
this will present no problem at all. We can easily convert
it to Charles Hardy, Chester Hardy and goodness knows what
else.

There is so much to know about conversation that anyone,
even I, could ever realize. You can go though watching talk
shows; radio programs; clubs dedicated to public speaking;
ordinary conversations; certain rules still apply when it
comes to interaction through words.

It may sound tedious,I know, but even though it's your
mouth that's doing the work, your brain works twice as hard
to churn out a lot of things you know. So what better way
to start learning to be an effective communication is to
know the very person closest to you: yourself.

1. What You Know.

Education is all about learning the basics, but to be an
effective speaker is to practice what you've learned.

My stint as guest at every Toastmasters' meeting I go to
taught me that we all have our limitations, but that
doesn't mean we can't learn to keep up and share what we
know.

2. Listening.

It's just as important as asking questions. Sometimes
listening to the sound of our own voice can teach us to be
a little bit confident with ourselves and to say the things
we believe in with conviction.

3. Humility.

We all make mistakes, and sometimes we tend to slur our
words, stutter, and probably mispronounce certain words
even though we know what it means, but rarely use it only
to impress listeners. So in a group, don't be afraid to ask
if you're saying the right word properly and if they're
unsure about it then make a joke out of it. I promise you
it'll make everyone laugh and you can get away with it as
well.

4. Eye Contact.

There's a lot to say when it comes to directing your
attention to your audience with an eye-catching gaze. It's
important that you keep your focus when talking to a large
group in a meeting or a gathering, even though he or she
may be gorgeous.

5. Kidding Around.

A little bit of humor can do wonders to lift the tension,
or worse boredom when making your speech. That way, you'll
get the attention of the majority of the crowd and they'll
feel that you're just as approachable, and as human to
those who listen.

6. Be Like The Rest Of Them.

Interaction is all about mingling with other people. You'll
get a lot of ideas, as well as knowing what people make
them as they are.

7. Me, Myself, and I.

Admit it, there are times you sing to yourself in the
shower. I know I do!

Listening to the sound of your own voice while you practice
your speech in front of a mirror can help correct the
stress areas of your pitch. And while you're at it you can
spruce up as well.

8. With a Smile.

A smile says it all much like eye contact. There's no point
on grimacing or frowning in a meeting or a gathering,
unless it's a wake. You can better express what you're
saying when you smile.

9. A Role Model.

There must be at least one or two people in your life you
have listened to when they're at a public gathering or
maybe at church. Sure they read their lines, but taking a
mental note of how they emphasize what they say can help
you once you take center stage.

10. Preparation.

Make the best out of preparation rather than just
scribbling notes and often in a hurried panic. Some people
like to write things down on index cards, while other
resort to being a little more silly as they look at their
notes written on the palm of their hand (not for clammy
hands, please). Just be comfortable with what you know
since you enjoy your work.

And that about wraps it up. These suggestions are rather
amateurish in edgewise, but I've learned to empower myself
when it comes to public or private speaking and it never
hurts to be with people to listen how they make
conversations and meetings far more enjoyable as well as
educational.

How to Strike the Right Balance Between Dialogue and Narrative

Do your readers loose consciousness ploughing through pages
of narrative description? Or are they perplexed and
bewildered because your snappy dialogue leaves them
wondering just who is talking to whom? It's time to get
your narrative/dialogue balance right. Here's how.

Modern readers in general prefer a story that moves along
with a fair degree of alacrity. If not, they soon get
bored, and when that happens your novel is history. That's
today's book reader for you; spoon fed on fast action films
and TV with perhaps little time to read anyway. But maybe
the readers you are aiming at are more relaxed and cerebral
and are quite at home with a slower paced tale. But which
is right for you and your readers?

Take a careful look at published books or stories of the
type you are writing yourself and gauge what proportion of
the text is dialogue and what is narrative. Compare your
findings with what you have written and see how it stacks
up. It is vital that you get this right or you may fall
between two stools.

And this is where dialogue comes in. Too much and the
reader can get lost and disoriented. Too little and the
reader can get bogged down and toss your tome aside.

TOO MUCH DIALOGUE

If your story has too much dialogue it is not unknown for
readers to loose track of which character is speaking. And
you need to avoid too many 'he said', 'she said' or 'said
Mark', 'said Hermione'.

An excess of dialogue can be wearing and you may need to
intersperse the conversation with snippets of movement or
description. As for example:

'Maria looked up from her work. "So that's what you think
of Grimble, is it?'

Carla nodded. 'He's passed his sell-by date if you ask me'.

Just a small movement like 'Maria looked up from her work.'
activates the reader's imagination and gives them a picture
to lock onto.

Imagine two characters having a heated argument. To break
this up you could say something like:

'A removal lorry shuddered to a halt in the street outside
followed by the blare of a horn from an angry motorist.
Ronald stomped over to the window and closed it with a
bang.'

This gives us movement and description, not only of the
character Ronald, but of the traffic outside, which,
incidentally, also echoes the turmoil going on inside.

TOO LITTLE DIALOGUE

If you find you are filling up page after page with too
much narrative you may need to ask yourself these questions:

Does this piece of narrative add to the storyline or is it
superfluous?

Would the story or plot suffer if I left it out altogether?

It may be all well and good describing at length the start
of a new day, either good or bad, but could you just as
easily save three paragraphs of purple prose by simply
saying:

'Gail drew back the curtains and sighed dispiritedly as she
took in the grey clouds and pouring rain.'

You can also use a character's dialogue to add a
descriptive element. You could save the necessity to put in
a long meandering flashback by writing something like:

'I often think about those hazy summer days when you, me
and Dave used to wander over the downs picking the
buttercups and daisies. Then we'd lie down by the pond in
that little grove of trees. Remember? Lovely. I wonder what
ever happened to Dave...'

But often you simply have to be cruel to be kind and axe
those sections of narrative that add nothing to the story
so that your narrative/dialogue balance is right.

And when you do get it right both your readers and your
publisher will thank you.

everything. And the first time you create an image is when
you make a good impression. Image doesn't only pertain to
how you look, how you act, what company you run. In order

in mind that image also pertains to the most obvious part
of written communication - your letterhead. Printing a
well-crafted letterhead should be part of your deal.

A letterhead can be your front liner in communication. It's
the first thing that your clients and colleagues will see
when they receive a mail from you. Not only will a
letterhead give them an idea of where you are located, it
will also affect how your clients perceive you. A
letterhead contains your everything about your company at a
glance; a letterhead introduces your company to your
potential clients, and states who you are and indicates
what products or services you are offering.

Design your letterhead with the good company image in mind.
You should bear this in mind when you choose your printer
too. So what should you put in your letterhead? In one
word: information. And when we say information, we mean
information that includes the company's name, address,
contact person, phone number and fax number, e-mail
address. If your company has a website, put it on the
letterhead too.

Your letterhead should also contain your logo. Your logo is
easily the most recognizable representation of your
company. When you're designing the letterhead, resize the
logo to fit proportionately to your letterhead. It should
be at 5x2 inches or smaller.

In general, letterheads are written this way: the logo and
company name are lumped together on the upper side of the
paper. The company's address and other contact details are
placed near the bottom page. Standard sizes for letterheads
are at 8.5 x 11 inches, because at that size letterheads
sent easily through mail or fax.

Printing Your Letterhead

You can print your letterhead in three color printing
options: one color, two colors, and full color. In general,
printing at full color gives your business letter more
depth and breadth. They also make your logos more
identifiable. Be prepared for the cost of quality though,
the more colors there are in a letterhead, the more
expensive it is to print.

Choose quality stock paper in your printing. For more
effect, use textured paper rather than plain bond paper. In
choosing a printer, your printing company should choose
high-quality printing methods. But of course, quality
customer service should also be a part of your
consideration.

When you've printed your letterheads, make sure that there
are matching envelopes. So you can create a clean and

your envelopes to create a clean and corporate look for

teaching you, but with a little determination and
perseverance, you can do it.

One of the best and simplest things you can do is tune into
the Spanish speaking TV channels at least once every day.
Do it at news time in the evenings, or mornings. News
programs are a great way to begin the process of being able
to teach yourself Spanish.

With TV news you can see the story being reported and you
can hear the reporter's voice. You won't understand much of
it at first, but as time goes one you will begin to
understand more and more. At first the words will all be
jumbled together, but after a few weeks they will start to
jump out at you.

Of course, you will need a Spanish course as well to teach
yourself Spanish properly. The Internet is littered with
excellent sites all vying with each other to sell you a
course on Spanish. Some of them are really excellent and
some are perhaps not so excellent.

Seek out several of the review sites on Spanish language
courses. They will try to influence your choice of course,
but they can be useful too. They will show you the most
popular of what's available. If several of the review sites
all pinpoint one particular course as being the best, take
a look. It may not be for you, but it may well be too.

You need to get into a routine if you ever hope to teach
yourself Spanish successfully. It's no use picking it up
occasionally and forgetting about it again for several
weeks. You need to study at least for 30 minutes a day.
That's not long. Cut out a TV program (but not the Spanish
news!), or cut out reading the morning newspaper. Make a
simple vow to yourself that you will do it, and then just
do it!

Aim to make definite progress in your efforts to teach
yourself Spanish. Set yourself realistic goals and reach
them. If you cannot reach a goal in a reasonable time,
change the goal to something you can reach. Review what you
have learned on a regular basis. It's very easy to forget.

If at all possible, try to find a way to speak to other
people who can speak Spanish. Don't choose someone who is
learning like you; they won't be of any help to you, and
may possibly hinder you. You need someone who has the
patience to listen to your struggling attempts to say
simple things. They need to be able to gently correct you,
though not so much that it will put you off trying. You
need to be encouraged and nurtured through the process.

If you decide to teach yourself Spanish you won't find it
easy, but you will find it satisfying. Whenever you feel
that your efforts are going nowhere, stop for a moment and
think back to when you started. Think back and remember
when you couldn't pick out a single word from the jumble of
sound that is the Spanish language. Then fast forward to
where you are at and realize that your attempts to teach
yourself Spanish is working, and working well too!
